Listen to Your Students - Listening is A Skill We All Need to Practice

"The biggest communication problem is we do not listen to understand. We listen to reply.” Stephen Covey

I was inspired to create this post as a reminder for myself that I need to learn to be a better listener. Teacher to Teacher and my friend Don Sturm recently posted these questions on Twitter and they started me thinking about the simplest ways we can get to know our students.

Teaching and Learning PD Video Playlist - Engage, Inspire, Motivate!

I love using short videos to engage students, but I also think video is a great tool for educators. These videos can connect learners to content or they can be connected to skills that we all need. I am always looking for something new to inspire, motivate, or just to explore something new connected to teaching and learning.

Women's History Resources

I am no expert on Women's History Month, but I do try to remember to bring a greater emphasis to women in science changing the world during the month of March. I also do my best to be aware of this year round, but March is always a nice reminder.

Today I wanted to share some of the resources my PLN has helped me discover. These resources could obviously be used year round.

Visual Crosswords - Google Arts and Culture Interactive Experiment

I've been exploring the collection of Google Arts and Culture Experiments and sharing some of these interactive activities over the last few weeks. These interactive resources will have content connections for some of us, but I also think they can be great brain breaks for students or even teachers. There can also be some great connections to creativity and critical thinking.

Today I wanted to share Visual Crosswords. Instead of clues and letters the crossword clues are connected to works of art that are used to complete different crossword patterns. Be sure to also explore the additional Arts and Culture Experiments linked at the end of this post.

Exploring Cultural Moments With Google Arts and Culture

Have you ever wondered which came first, the chicken or the egg? This question has been around for a long time and depending on which source your want to believe it could be either or maybe even both. That's what makes it a great question, there might be more than right answer! This can lead to more questions! I Know I don't know the right answer and I hope I am not disappointing too much by telling you now that this is not what this post is about. If you are only interested in the chicken and the egg,  I think this site has the best answer I've read. Right or wrong? You get to decide.

A new experiment from Google Art's and Culture is the reason why the chicken and the egg question entered my consciousness. I  think this experiment could serve as a quick digital brain break or maybe as a jumping off point for a research project. I also think the answers can lead to more questions for the curious at heart! Be sure to also explore the additional Arts and Culture Experiments linked at the end of this post.
