The ISTE presenters and sessions are awesome, but connecting with exhibitors and exploring the Expo Center is a great way to add a little something extra to your ISTE learning experience. You can also find some great "swag" and other valuable resources at the exhibitor booths. Here are some tips to help you make the most of your time in the Expo Center.

  • Visit the Explore the Expo Page on the conference website before attending the conference. You can search for specific exhibitors or explore the alphabetical list of exhibitors. You can click on each exhibitor to learn a bit more.
  • There is also an interactive floorplan that can help you map your route as you explore the Expo Center.
  • Exhibitors are categorized into 28 different categories. For example, you can choose "AR/VR" in the category dropdown menu and see a list of all the exhibitors connected to this category.
  • While it is ok to wander and explore, you probably want to make sure you have a  plan to visit the exhibitors that you are curious about before visiting the Expo Center. I always make a list interesting exhibitors ahead of time and add it to a Google Keep NoteI like Google Keep because I can update my list on my Chromebook and on my phone. (I'll share my list later in this post.)
  • You don't have to race past booths that are not on your list. Challenge yourself to slow down and discover something new. I always discover a few other awesome resources as I work my way through my initial exhibitor list.
  • Don't just stop for the swag and run. Take a moment to have a conversation with some of the exhibitors who you are curious about. Many of the exhibitors were teachers before moving into their new roles. Connections with these people can often have a bigger impact than just connecting with the resource alone.
  • It can also be rewarding to connect with the exhibitors via social media. A shoutout on social media with the conference hashtag is another great way to make new connections. Visit the #ISTE19 hashtag on Twitter to get a sense of which exhibitors are active on social media. If you have a great experience at a booth be sure to give them a thank you on Twitter. Be sure to tag them (@ . . . ) and use the hashtag #ISTE19.
  • Many of the exhibitors also host mini-sessions led by some great educators. These small group gatherings are a great way to meet some incredible educators face to face. You can learn about these sessions by visiting the booths or explore the #ISTE19 hashtag.
  • Exhibitors often host social events and the best way to get invited is to stop and talk to the staff at the booths. I am already excited about the ISTE Speakeasy and EdTech Karaoke this year.

  1. This is awesome information, Steve. You rock! I would just like to add that ISTE participants AND those that cannot make it to the conference should check out the pre-conference events on Saturday. Many are free, such as the ISTETEN S.P.A.R.K. Summit (more at https://isteten.weebly.com).

  2. If Everfi is going to be there, add them to your list. I had a very engaging conversation with them at FETC.
